Supporting athletes to win bike races is our passion and our coaching programmes are what allow us to do this best. We take a holistic view of coaching and will support you in anyway we can to ensure you achieve your victories.
When In Pursuit support you on your journey, we will combine international level racing experience with up to date scientific research and proven successful coaching experience to inform a versatile and bespoke training programme tailored to you and your goals.
At the start of our relationship, we will ensure we have a full understanding of your story so far and where you would like your future to take you. This derives from bespoke physiological testing, careful consideration of your sporting past and ongoing communication to ensure we can support you in achieving the goals that matter to you.
We will then work with you to identify exciting goals that will hopefully stretch you to achieve something you can be proud of. Realistic but ambitious goals can be event based or testing based but are really important to a successful training programme, we will work with you to set these.
Now we know a bit more about you and your goals we can start to produce a training programme that will consider where you need to be compared to where you are now and build a plan to get you there. As our relationship develops we will learn more about you and will continue to adapt to your individual needs to make sure you are able to get the most from your training and maximise your potential.
Our ongoing support will incorporate a weekly training programme both on and off the bike based on bespoke training phases and blocks that we have designed to bring you to your events in peak form with the right training stimulus. We will not only offer you recommendations on the training that will assist you but also nutritional, psychological and tactical support to ensure you have the best opportunity to succeed.
We purposefully limit the amount of people we support on coaching programmes to ensure we are able to maintain strong and quality relationships, please email email@example.com to ask any questions or find out about availability.
Everything we do at In Pursuit Coaching is underpinned by scientific rigour and understanding the physiological characteristics that will allow you to succeed.
As humans no two of us are the same which is why we take the care and time to test and interpret the results of each individual athlete and set out a plan of action aligned with your unique goal.
Testing is as bespoke as your training, we will tailor your on going testing to ensure we are measuring the correct indicators of performance according to what you are trying to achieve. We have a large repertoire of tests we are able to use derived from working with hundreds of athletes in applied and clinical environments including but not excluding: blood lactate analysis, V̇O2 gas analysis, serum markers of muscle breakdown and maximal strength testing. We also have the capacity to simulate altitude and humidity to test your response to exercise in different environments.
All testing comes with a comprehensive report detailing the results, what they mean and how they relate to your goals. Whilst we include testing in our coaching packages, we also offer testing as a stand alone product, email firstname.lastname@example.org to discuss your needs.
Do your work mates wonder why you spend so much time riding in circles? Bring them along for a group session to show them how much fun it is, not only will you save your voice box from endlessly repeating the endless list of reasons riding the track is so much more than going fast and turning left, our group sessions offer a great opportunity for team building and escaping the office. Research also suggests that active and healthy individuals are more productive and we can't think of a better way to be active than riding a bicycle!
We have run group sessions for lots of different groups, kids (or adults) birthday parties, charity fund raising events, product launches and just groups of mates wanting to have a go at something different so don't hesitate to contact us to see what we can offer your group.
A correctly fitted bike won't win you a race but an ill fitting one will certainly lose it for you. Bike fit has become a staple in the cycling industry and goes hand in hand with the purchase of a new bike however there can be a huge difference in the quality of Bike Fits which is why we have teamed up with York Cycleworks to offer what we believe to be the best quality service.
Rob is a qualified Precision bike fit technician and will take you through the whole process considering your position on the bike in relation to your unique anthropometric characteristics, flexibility and what it is you hope to achieve on the bike. The process is in depth and considers far more than just saddle height and reach even going as far as moulding custom footbeds and saddle pressure mapping where required.
More information about bike fit can be found here:
Or you can contact Rob on email@example.com
Handling and tactics play a huge part in winning bike races which is why we invest as much of our time into practical coaching as we do to training programmes. Whether you are looking to race or ride on the road or the track (or both) we offer sessions for riders of all abilities to enhance your skills.
Sessions can range from cornering on the road and group riding on the track to taking a bottle from a helper and madison slings, we can adapt our sessions to teach you a completely new skill or refine your existing skills to maximise your potential.
Keep an eye on our news feed for sessions we are running or email us on firstname.lastname@example.org if there is a particular skill you would like to learn or refine.
Personal Training/Strength and Conditioning
The power you produce on a bicycle is calculated as velocity (cadence) multiplied by force (pressure on the pedal). Strength training to maximise force produced is therefore a fundamental part of being able to produce more power and in turn ride the bicycle quicker and win races. In Pursuit will often incorporate specific strength training sessions on the bike into your training programme where required however to maximise strength and force, off the bike training in the gym offers greater resistance and greater training stimulus to maximise gains.
Andy is a qualified Level 2 Personal Trainer and has years of cycling specific weight lifting experience for his own training and is able to offer you the support you need to incorporate strength training into your programme.
Correct technique is crucial when training in the gym to prevent injuries and maximise the training stimulus so Andy will take the time to come to the gym with you and hone your technique and provide recommendations on the exercises and weights you should be using to obtain the correct training stimulus.
Strength and conditioning is about more than building large muscles and work in the gym shouldn't be avoided for fear of gaining weight that may ruin your power to weight ratio. The correct strength programme will help you to hold yourself better on the bike by training muscles in your torso and arms and create a stronger platform from which to deliver power.
In Pursuit offers strength and conditioning as part of the coaching programmes but also as a stand alone product, contact Andy on email@example.com to ask him about how he can help you increase your force on the pedals.
We want to be are the forefront of exercise science and be able to offer the most recent and innovative advice to our clients and push the boundaries of what has been achieved before. For these reasons, Rob continues to be heavily involved in academic research.
Rob completed his MSc in Exercise and Nutrition Science at the University of Chester in 2015 and presented his research into the effects of cadence on muscle breakdown at the Science and Cycling Conference in 2016.
Since then he has gone on to become a Research Assistant at Leeds Beckett University where he is currently involved in data collection and writing of research seeking to produce a new cycling testing protocol.
In 2017 Rob hopes to commence studying again, researching the physiological demands of the Omnium as a PhD.

Sometimes the weather stops us getting out in the fresh air and getting to an indoor velodrome is tricky so needs must and we have to train indoors. Even though most of us choose cycling because we want to get out an ride our bikes, indoor training can provide unique opportunities for you to develop as an athlete that will make you stronger when you do go back outside.
In Pursuit Coaching are able to offer an array of unique indoor training opportunities including cycling specific spinning classes at York Sport Village, altitude simulation training at the OTE Sports Bunker in Leeds and roller/turbo sessions.
Indoor training doesn't have to be solitary hours of spinning looking at a breeze block wall in your garage, keep an eye on our social media and news feed to see what opportunities we have to join our sessions, training can be more fun in a group.
